There are moves afoot to make the sale of Salvia Divinorum, the most powerful natural hallucinogenic known to man, illegal. This is likely to be only the first in a series of steps that will see this popular drug banished from society and traded solely in the underworld. Is this a good thing?

Many say that it is. Dr. Howard Samuels of Wonderland Treatment Center in Hollywood Hills testified before a Senate committee in Sacramento last week, he sees firsthand how salvia, often in combination with other drugs, affects lives. He strongly advocates making Salvia illegal.

So too does Matt Nazareth of the Students for Sensible Drug Policy.

This will be music to the ears of Assemblyman Anthony Adams who recently proposed a bill to the Californian state Senate; he hopes to make the sale of Salvia to minors a misdemeanor punishable by 6 months’ jail time, or $1000, depending on the situation.
