Phuket’s nightlife has shot from mediocrity to excellence in just a few short years. Here’s a brief write-up on what makes it great.
Most popular on the Phuket nightlife menu is a traditional Thai-style club, which is typical of the Phuket nightlife. A Thai club is very different from a Western one. Locals (and some visitors) alike will crowd around tables, dancing like madmen. A local rock band will play covers of Thai and Western classics. Friends will share a bottle of Whiskey or Vodka and Pepsi. The guys in these clubs will dance until the sun comes up.
The Phuket nightlife is not perfect but it has certainly improved in variety since I was last here. You can now find everything from Thai indie music through to Western rock and onto more modern club genres, such as breaks and drum n bass.
The real change in Phuket, though, is in the number of clubs that have appears that really rake their music seriously. More seriously, in fact, than getting money from their customers. These places cater to genres of music ranging from house and breaks to electro and techno and a sign that Phuket becomes less focused on commercial hits and pop music when it comes to nightlife.
