New users of Ares have enough to worry about: finding and downloading all your favorite tracks on such a massive network with so many shared songs can be difficult enough, without having to struggle with the continual problem of Ares not connecting.
Ensuring that you’ve got Ares connecting correctly is sometimes as simple as making sure your firewall settings are configured right. Other times it can be solved with a restart. Some times it is, unfortunately, not so trivial.
Other times the cause of Ares not connecting is due to a fault in older versions of Ares like Ares Galaxy; this piece of software doesn’t correctly find the ’seeds’ that it uses to connect to and communicate with the network. This initial list of ‘nodes’ (called ‘cnodes’) is sometimes just not being created properly.
The newer versions of Ares – software like Ares Vista and Ares Ultimate – are having no problem connecting to the network. Perhaps a permanent solution to this particular problem of Ares not connecting is to change over to some more efficient software? The difference here is that the newer software constantly updates the cnodes so that you are not stuck with an old list when you fire up Ares again after a spell offline.
