I have been a very loyal user of Ares Lite since 2002 when it was first released. I’ll tell you the reasons for my loyalty (which, I will add, is not given out lightly).

Firstly Ares Lite worked perfectly on my older computer; Ares Galaxy was great but it simply ran too slowly. Secondly Ares Lite was clean of the spyware which was bundled with many of the other versions of Ares.

I always thought that the ‘Lite’ part of the name indicated that the software was clear of adware, but this was not the case, since there were many other great versions of Ares that didn’t have any malware included in their download bundles. In fact the ‘Lite’ part of the Ares Lite name refers to the reduced resources needed to run the bad boy. This was why it ran so successfully on my older machine (as I found out later!).

Times they have a changed and I’ve upgraded my computer a couple of times since 2002. I saw a friend using Ares Ultra and Ares Ultimate and I came to the conclusion that my beloved Ares Lite was limiting my filesharing experience unnecessarily. It was great while it lasted, old friend. I went with Ares Vista in the end. All clear of spyware, and all fantastic pieces of software.

What others are saying:
Ares Lite not really needed anymore
For simple filesharing, try Ares Lite

[…] Ares Lite’s smaller footprint makes a negligible difference on my computer today and it seems a shame to be loosing out on the functionality of the new leaders for the sake of nostalgia. So long, old friend! […]
